With a Luxury Cigar Ashtray, smokers can have a good smoking experience and enhance the environment. One of our customers is a designer of luxury goods and high-end design, and is looking for a capable manufacturer for casting and polishing of metal objects, mainly metal ashtrays such as luxury cigar ashtray. The quality of the finishing and polishing would be absolutely paramount with such designs. CFS Stainless steel foundry can manufacture the luxury cigar ashtray in stainless steel and with a perfect finish.
Can the object be cast as hollow or does it have to be fully cast? This is a question mainly relating to weight. According to the process of stainless steel casting, this part can be cast only in solid, so final casting weight can not be saved, and the casting price is mainly calculated based on the weight of the luxury cigar ashtray. Among all the cast stainless steel grades (304, 304L, 316, 316L, 17-4 ph, 2205, etc), 304 stainless steel is the most cost effective material grade to produce this part, which is recommended to our customer.
Mold Making
With a total length 320mm and final weight around 5kgs, the luxury cigar ashtray is relatively a large part compared with other stainless steel castings. The first step to start manufacturing luxury cigar ashtray is mold making, whose cavity is the full shape of luxury cigar ashtray. The mold material selected is superior aviation aluminum, while other stainless steel casting companies use normal aluminum. The mold for casting luxury cigar ashtray consists of two halves, which will be put together when working.
Wax Pattern Forming
When mold is ready, it is time to produce wax patterns, whose dimensions are the same as final part. To form wax patterns, wax is injected competely into the mold. After seveval seconds, a solid wax pattern is formed and is taken out from the mold. Before casting, workers need to check if there is any surface defects, if any defect occurs, the wax pattern has to be repaired or rejected, and can not be moved on. Normally, the defects of wax patterns may be caused by not fully injection of wax, or unproper operation when forming wax patterns.
Stainless Steel Casting & Mirror Polishing
Stainless steel casting used to produce luxury cigar ashtray is investment casting process, which can creat net shape products, and machining can be saved. During stainless steel casting process, wax patterns are dipped in a slurry of refractory coating materials and is allowed to dry. This step is repeated until a thick shell is created over the wax pattern. Then, wax pattern is melted out so that a cavity in the shape of the pattern is all that is left. The cavity is then filled with molten stainless steel. Next, after the metal cools and solidifies, the shell is broken away, the gating material is removed, and the finished cast luxury cigar ashtray remains.
After casting, the luxury cigar ashtray is mirror polished. As this part is irregular and relatively large, so the polishing process is not easy. To make the surface shinning and smooth enough, the luxury cigar ashtray has to be polished in several times, and due to its large weight, the whole polishing process is slow, which makes the polishing cost high, but the final polishing effect is really ideal.
