What Are Marine Castings?

Marine castings refer to metal parts obtained through the casting process and are specifically used in the Marine industry. Common marine castings are: rail fittings, bimini top fittings, propellers, hinges, flag pole cleats, and others. In order to ensure the durability of Marine castings, these parts must have a high corrosion resistance and durability. The quality of these castings directly affects the reliability and safety of marine boats, making it essential to source a reliable casting supplier like CFS Foundry.

The casting process for marine castings involves the melting of metals and pouring the liquid metal into the mold. After solidification and cooling, the marine parts are formed. At CFS Foundry, we can produce marine castings with different casting processes and metal materials. The selection of the casting technique mainly depends on the part structure and material.

Our Manufacturing Capabilities for Marine Castings

CFS Foundry has both casting and machining capabilities for marine hardwares production. Our casting process can create near net or net shape marine hardwares with great precision and surface finish. The value added machining service can help us to delivered finished marine hardwares for sale or use directly!

Investment Casting

Investment Casting

Most marine hardwares benefit from investment casting process, which is ideal to produce stainless steel marine hardwares with tight tolerances and excellent surface quality. CFS Foundry can offer marine investment casting services with great corrosion resistance and surface appearance.

Die Casting

Die Casting

Die casting is a special manufacturing process for precise and smooth aluminum marine castings. It is highly efficient for high-volume production and is ideal for lightweight & durable components. Some examples of marine aluminum castings are: cylinder heads, housings, brackets, and light fixtures, etc.

CNC Machining

CNC Machining

Our CNC machining capabilities enable us to create marine parts with higher dimensional accuracy and surface finish requirements, which are not enough by casting only. The CNC machining process at CFS Foundry can further enchance the assembly of marine parts effectively.

Key Benefits of Casting for Marine Industry

Metal casting is the most widely used manufacturing process of marine parts, which provides maximum design freedom. It can produce durable, high-quality components that can withstand the harsh conditions of marine environments. CFS Foundry can customize marine castings to meet the exact specifications of each part. Here are some of the key benefits of casting for marine applications.

1. Corrosion Resistance
Because salt water is highly corrosive, metal casting can produce marine parts that can withstand continuous exposure to salt water. CFS Foundry usually adopts excellent corrosion resistance casting materials such as stainless steel (e.g., 316 or 2205 duplex) and aluminum alloys (e.g., A356). Marine castings from these materials ensure a longer life and less maintenance.

2. Flexibility
The high flexibility of metal casting allows the creation of marine castings with complex shapes, such as propellers, impellers and complex valve parts. Compared with other production processes, casting has fewer dimensional limitations and can ensure good dimensional accuracy. In most of the cases, casting is a good alternative process for marine parts production.

3. Material Versatility
In the casting process, a variety of metal materials can be used to produce marine castings, among which stainless steel and aluminum alloy are commonly used casting materials. The selection of casting material for marine parts mainly depends on the special requirements, such as corrosion resistance, mechanical properties, cost, and so on.

4. Cost Efficiency
Casting is a very economical solution for the production of Marine parts. It can produce a variety of complex shapes of parts, and can meet the needs of mass production. At the same time, this production process minimizes material waste and can ensure the consistency of quality, providing an economic solution for high-precision and high-quality marine parts.

5. High Strength-to-Weight Ratio
Similar to automotive parts, marine parts also need to balance strength and weight in order to reduce fuel consumption. The casting of aluminum alloy can meet the high strength-to-weight ratio and can be used to produce lightweight and durable marine castings. Examples of marine castings at CFS Foundry are brackets, housings, deck fittings, etc.

Marine Casting FAQs

There are several types of metal materials for marine castings, such as stainless steel, aluminum, iron or other materials. The selection of a proper casting material usually depends of the properties, cost and the working environment. CFS Foundry is familar with each type metal for marine parts casting, we can also recommend a suitable material if necessary.

Quality control is very important during the production process. At CFS Foundry, we mainly control the quality of marine castings in several aspects, including material inspection, dimensional inspection, and surface quality inspection. Each cast piece is carefully inspected and recorded before delivery

The lead time for marine castings at CFS Foundry mainly depends on the order quantity. Usually, it will take us around 4-5 weeks to finish the mold and initial sample, and another 5-6 weeks to complete mass production.
