The automobile industry is a very big consumer of cast products that are made using ferrous and non-ferrous metals and alloys. Different types of casting methods are used to for the production of automotive spare parts and accessories.
China is the largest producer and exporter of automotive castings in the world. As recorded, Chinese foundries, are responsible for nearly 50 percent of the world’s total automotive casting output. To put that into perspective, China’s casting production is nearly four times larger than that of the second leading producer, the United States.
Today, Chinese foundries, are often the only option available for automotive castings. American foundries have moved away from automotive castings, in part due to the high costs of making domestic molds (US made molds are around 70% higher in cost that molds made in China).
Different Casting Processes for Automotive Parts
The most common application for casting occurs in the automotive industry. In fact, the idea behind casting was originally created for automotive industry. Since vehicles require complex shapes and sizes for different parts of the vehicle, it is almost mandatory to use casting process. Due to the precise accuracy of this process, the need for further machining is practically non-existent. This alone saves an exuberant amount of time and money for the manufacturing of automobile parts.
Stainless Steel Casting: stainless steel is used to cast automotive parts because this type of casting material is resistant to corrosion and high temperature oxidation, which offers energy absorption properties and maintain mechanical properties over a wide temperature range. Typical part for automotive industry is cast stainless steel exhaust manifold.
Iron Casting: Iron casting is considered to creat automotive parts mainly on a basis of good price instead of quality. Grey cast iron and ductile cast iron are widely used to manufacture automotive components such as brake discs, cylinders heads, crankshaft, engine block, etc.
Aluminum Die Casting: Die casting is a technique where molten metal is poured into casting mold under pressure. The technique can also be used to make very small spare parts for vehicles in large batches. Die casting of aluminum alloys can creat lightweight automotive parts with good dimension accuracy and thermal properties.
Zinc Die Casting: Zinc has a lowering melting point, allowing for less energy during production. Die casting of zinc alloys provides strength, flexibility, and malleability for automotive parts that you cannot match with other materials. Examples of zinc die cast automotive parts are: retractor gears, seat belt pulleys, and camshafts, as well as a multitude of other parts on most vehicles.
CFS Foundry – The Best Automotive Casting Partner in China
CFS Foundry specializes in all types of metal castings for automotive industry. We have the ability to produce automotive castings in all shapes and sizes weighing as little as 0.02kg to 60kgs. At CFS, we follow a strict set of documented procedures and lean production methods. That means we’re able to provide repeatable, consistent and cost-effective products to our automotive clients.
Our Automotive Casting Services Include:
Redesign: We work closely with our automotive clients, to identify new approaches and opportunities to save. For instance, we saved one customer 60% in production costs by figuring out that two castings and one piece could be cast as a single piece. With our redesign service, the company could recoup its costs in under two years.
Molding and Sampling: The moulding and sampling processes provided in our foundry give an accurate preview of how a part will look, feel and handle. Our free sample will be fastly delivered to our customer for approval. We can modify the mould if there is any necessary of dimensions revision.
Casting: Based on the metal and dimensions designed for automotive parts, we can recommend the most ideal casting method. For example, for stainless steel automotive parts, investment casting is preferred to save or avoid extra machining operation!
Other Value Added Services such as machining, surface finishing, assembly, etc, are also available in our foundry.
With decades of experience in automotive casting, we always deliver best quality products beyond our customer’s expectation. Interested in getting a automotive product cast in China? Pls feel free to contact us!
