Among all the metalworking processes, casting is the most flexible method for creating metal components with complex shapes. Due to the good castability of aluminum alloys, it has been one of the main casting metals.
Aluminum casting alloys offer a range of advantages, including good corrosition resistance, high fluidity, low melting point, short casting cycles, good as-cast surface finish and chemical stability.
About 30% of all aluminum products are manufactured by casting and most of complex pieces are produced in this way. Although some properties of aluminum castings is not as good as those of aluminum forgings. However, with the evolution of casting technologies, aluminum casting has achieved a strong improvement in the properties of the final products, which makes them competitive with forged aluminum parts.
CFS Foundry is the best aluminum casting manufacturer in China, we have been in aluminum casting field for more than 30 years. Specialised in different casting processes of aluminum alloys (gravity die casting, high pressure die casting, low pressure die casting and sand casting), we well know the main aluminum alloys in each casting process.
A356 is a type of aluminum alloy for gravity die casting. A356.0 is the designation for this material from Aluminum Association (AA). In UNS standard, it is A13560 and the SAE designation is 336. A356 aluminum casting alloy has good casting and machining performance, suitable for use in aircraft, pump housings, impellers, high-velocity blowers, and other structural castings that require high strength. A356 aluminum often used to manufacture intricate and complex aluminum castings, which provides lightweight, pressure tightness and great mechanical properties. Sometimes, A356 used as an alternative for 6061 aluminum. T6 heat treatment is always performed after casting of A356 aluminum alloy, which can greatly improve the strength as well as other properties of A356 castings.
A360 aluminum is an aluminum alloy suitable for casting. A360.0 is the Aluminum Association (AA) designation for this material. A13600 is the UNS number. Additionally, the SAE designation is 309. The British Standard (BS) designation is LM9. And the AFNOR (French) designation is A-S10G. Older literature may refer to this material as ASTM SG100A, but this is now discouraged. This alloy has good forming performance, corrosion resistance, candle resistance, fatigue strength and medium static strength. It can be used to manufacture automobile oil pans, automobile controller shells, motor shells, 5G communication boxes, LED lamp housing and so on.
A380 aluminum alloy is the most common die casting material, because it combines easy casting, easy machining, good heat transfer and other characteristics. It has strong variability, bearing pressure, and high temperature split resistance. Although A380 has been considered to be easy to machine, it is slightly rough due to the high silicon content. It is widely used in a variety of products, including chassis for electrical equipment, engine mounts, gearboxes, furniture, generators and hand tools.
A383 is a common aluminum die casting alloy with a higher level of silion and lower copper, the equivalent aluminum alloy in China is ADC12. This alloy has slightly improved corrosion resistance, resistance to hot cracking, fluidity, and strength at elevated temperatures compared to A380. Our aluminum foundry offers Aluminum Alloy 383 (a383) as an alternative to A380 die casting. Aluminum Alloy 383 die casting is a better alternative when more detailed components, needing improved die filling characteristics, are required. We have the best prices on materials because we get a383 and all of our materials straight from the manufacturer.
Above aluminum alloys are just the most commom used aluminum casting alloys. CFS Foundry can also customize aluminum castings in other cast aluminum alloys. If you have a aluminum casting item with a specific aluminum alloy, just feel free to contact us!
