About Investment Casting Testing
To ensure reliable performance for application of investment castings, quality control is a vital step after investment casting production. A large number of methods have been developed to inspect castings for defects that may occur during their production. Such inspections may be in done during process inspections or finished product inspections. Process inspections are operated before all the castings have been completed , so that we can take corrective measures to remove the defect in the remaining units. Finished product inspections are carried out after investment castings have all been completely finished, which can make sure that our customers will receive the highest quality products.
For defective castings, we will selectively take remedial measure like welding repair, or completely reject investment castings to be re-melted for the reutilization of material according to the extent of defects. Normally, we divide investment casting inspection methods into destructive testing and non-destructive categories depending upon the magnitude of damage done to the casting during inspection. Destructive methods generally relate to sawing or breaking off of parts of the castings at places where voids or internal defects are easy produced. Castings may also be damaged during strength tests.
Non Destructive Testing
However, non-destructive testing (NDT) is a highly valued method for inspecting investment castings without any damage of products. All the tests will not affect the further use of the products. Non-destructive testing is helpful and worthy for quality problem troubleshooting of our investment castings.
